Professional Reading – Divergent Mind

The book’s full title is Divergent Mind: Thriving in a World That Wasn’t Designed for You

I really enjoyed this book as it gives readers a useful framework for working with people who might think differently.

The first few chapters were particularly enlightening and the author’s discussion of the history of psychology and pathologising of difference was both interesting and thought provoking. I was surprised to read case after case of where woman who have divergent minds have often not been recognised / diagnosed until adulthood.

One thing that I really liked about this book was its optimistic outlook and focus on improving lives and society at large.

As a teacher, reading it was extremely valuable and it has certainly given me added insight into working with some of my students.
