Te Tiriti o Waitangi – Living the Values

Title & Source: Te Tiriti o Waitangi – living the values

Summary & Reflection
This was a really helpful article which outlined practical ways that teachers can (and are already) addressing their treaty obligations. The themes of Partnership, Participation and Protection provide a useful framework which makes it easy for teachers to show how they are honouring the Treaty and supporting their students.

Partnership involves having effective communication with home. This is something that I already do quite well via emails and mtxt.

Participation and Protection involve actively protecting Maori knowledge, interests and values. One way that I do this in my classes is to promote biculturalism wherever possible. This often involves having a default / teaching task where the context has a strong bicultural flavour.
