Subject Specific PD: Kaggle & Airtables

In order to support a colleague who is teaching Achievement Standard 91879, I ended up upskilling in the use of the following

  • Kaggle
  • AirTable
    • This involved a time commitment of four hours to learn the basics and another three hours to work out how to implement linked tables and rollups in AirTable.

      Reflection
Kaggle is a valuable source of data that students can access and then use. They will need to be careful that the database they select is suitable for their project and preferably contains LESS than 700 records. Whilst AirTable has a free version, those on the free plan are limited to databases where the total number of records must be less than 1200. This means that in some cases, using MS Access might be preferable – even though AirTable is significantly easier to use.
